🍫 What Are Mars Bar Cakes?

Mars bar cakes are delicious treats made with Mars chocolate bars. The cakes are usually made by melting Mars bars with butter or margarine, then combining them with Rice Krispies, and are loved by all ages!

You may also know them as:

    • Mars bar slice
    • mars bar cake
    • Mars bar traybake - When made in an 8X8 tray
    • Mars bar squares - When sliced into squares

    ✏️ Ingredients Notes

Labeled ingredients for mars bar krispie cake recipe.
    • Mars bars - Using Mars bars instead of chocolate to make these cereal krispy cakes just takes them to the next level. The melted Mars bars add a lush caramel flavor and yummy chewy texture.
    • Be sure to always check the size of the Mars bar used as standard Mars bars are larger than multi-pack Mars bars but I have included the weight needed in the recipe card to make it more accurate.
    • Rice Krispies - I used Kellogg's Rice Krispie cereal but you can use your preferred brand or alternatively use plain cornflakes.
    • Milk chocolate - The milk chocolate makes a great topping to the Mars bar Krispy treats.
    • Golden syrup - Adds a distinct caramel-like flavor that adds depth to the recipe.
    • Butter - Adds richness and enhances the overall flavor of the Krispy Cakes. Melted butter helps coat the rice cereal evenly with the Mars Bar mixture. This ensures that each cereal piece is fully coated, resulting in a consistent texture throughout the Krispy Cakes.

See the recipe card below for ingredients & measurements.

    🌸 Substitutions & Variations

    • Mars bar traybake - instead of individual cakes this recipe will also work well in a lined 8x8 baking tin. Once they have set slice into Mars bar squares carefully with a sharp knife.
    • Caramel layer - If you want to level up these Mars bar Krispy cakes then drizzle with caramel sauce for a sweet and sticky topping.
    • Sprinkles - Use colorful sprinkles on top of the melted chocolate before it firms up to add a pop of color to the cakes.
    • Cornflakes - Substitute Rice Krispue cereal for Cornflake to make Mars bar cornflake cakes.
    • Honey or Maple Syrup - This is a great substitute for golden syrup if it is not available where you live.

    ⏲️ Step by Step Instructions

Below is a quick and simple guide, accompanied by pictures, on how to make rice krispie cakes with Mars bars.

See the full instructions in the recipe card below.

Sliced mars bar on a wooden chopping board beside a clear bowl with diced butter.

Step 1: Carefully chop the Mars bars into little slices approx 1cm thick.

Step 2: Add the Mars bar slices and butter into a large bowl.

Tip: By chopping the Mars bar and butter into smaller pieces will make the melting process much faster.

Step 3: Place the bowl in the microwave and heat on short 30-second bursts stirring in between until the chocolate and butter have melted. Add in the golden syrup and mix well.

Step 4: Pour the rice krispies into the melted Mars bar mixture and gently fold in until all of the rice krispies are evenly coated with the melted Mars bars.

Tip: The melted mixture will have a slice lumpy texture due to the nougat in the Mars bar but don't worry this will still mix in well with the rice krispies (See image 3).

Step 5: Evenly divide up the chocolate Rice Krispies between 12 cupcake cases.

Step 6: In a small bowl melt chocolate in the microwave. Divide the melted chocolate between the Mars bar cakes and then top with extra slices of Mars bar if desired.

Tip: I find using an ice cream scoop to add the chocolate rice krispies into the cases and also scooping the melted chocolate on top makes it much easier.
